What to know about Germany’s “Electronic Residence Title’’???

Any foreign third country national wishing to come to Germany will have to possess and require a residence title entirely based on the purpose of their residence in Germany. This residence title will fundamentally allow one to work – unless a law explicitly forbids it.

Electronic residence title is issued as a cheque card-sized plastic card containing an electronic storage medium (chip) on which personal data i.e. name, date of birth, nationality, address, bio metric characteristics (photograph and fingerprints) including ancillary provisions (requirements and conditions) are stored. The electronic residence title also has an online ID function which enables government services and commercial online services to be used quickly and simply via the Internet.

Note: Residence titles are now only issued on paper forms in exceptional cases for temporary use. Visas are always applied to the travel document as an adhesive label.
