New Zealand’s Exchange Student Visa

By

A candidate outside of New Zealand can apply for a New Zealand’s Exchange Student VISA to study an approved full time school-to-school exchange, an exchange program organization scheme or a tertiary exchange course certified by a legit education provider. As the candidate will be considered a domestic student, the candidate will not have to pay tuition fees, however, he/ she should have adequate finances put aside to cover the living expenses during the stay in New Zealand.

An identity copy, police certificate, medical examination and a personal statement proving a genuine intention to stay in New Zealand for the specified purpose are some of the other core documents that must be sufficed for application. Depending on the age and the length of the study, one will also have the privilege to work part-time up to 25 hours a week while studying and full-time during the holidays. Anyone planning to study with a Study Abroad program should apply under a Fee Paying Student Visa. This VISA lets a student stay up to a maximum of 4 years under this VISA. A candidate, however, can apply for a visitor visa to stay another 3 months as a tourist in case, after the completion of exchange, one wants a holiday in New Zealand.

When one arrives in New Zealand, one must also complete a New Zealand Traveler Declaration (NZTD) properly indicating the whereabouts about one’s travel, including customs, immigration, and bio security details. NZTD submission generally depends on how one is traveling i.e. if the travel is by air than NZTD can be submitted 24 hours before ones journey begins; and 24 hours before one’s ship leaves its last overseas port heading to New Zealand if the travel is by sea. Individuals possessing an NZeTA can specify their declaration that the application for a visa is done on arrival.

While in New Zealand, one must keep in mind, that he/ she who has a job in New Zealand is ought to pay tax on what they earn and for that an Inland Revenue Department (IRD) number from Inland Revenue (the New Zealand Government department) is needed, which, of course is a sole authorized entity to collect tax.
