The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is a standardized test owned, developed and published by the College Board, administered by the Educational Testing Service and widely used for college admissions mostly in the United States. The SAT test has been introduced primarily to assess students’ readiness for college admissions.
The SAT is composed of two sections: (1) the Reading and Writing section of 64 minutes (comprises of two 32 minute modules), and (2) the Math section which is of 70 minutes (comprises of two 35 minute modules) summing up the total test time to 2 hours 14 minutes. The numbers of questions/ tasks asked for reading and Writing section is 54 while the numbers of questions/ tasks asked for math section is 44.
Each section is divided into 2 equal length modules, and there is a 10-minute break between the Reading and Writing section and the Math section. The first module of each section contains a broad mix of easy, medium, and hard questions. Based on the performance on the first module, the second module of questions will either be more or less difficult.
The Reading and Writing section presents short reading passages (or passage pairs) followed by a single multiple-choice question. Questions on the Reading and Writing section represent one of four content domains—Craft and Structure, Information and Ideas, Standard English Conventions, and Expression of Ideas. The passages in the Reading and Writing section represent the subject areas of literature, history/social studies, the humanities, and science, and ranges from 25 to 150 words. The Maths section, on the other hand, consists of questions covering Algebra (13-15 number of questions), Advanced Math (13-15 number of questions), Problem- solving and Data Analysis (5-7 number of questions), Geometry & Trigonometry (5-7 number of questions). One will have to answer multiple-choice and student-produced response questions that measure fluency with, understanding of, and ability to apply the math concepts, skills, and practices that are most essential.
The total score of SAT ranges from 400 to 1600. The SAT registration fees in $68.
