What we need to know about Germany, the country’s residence permit, naturalization and settlement permits?

Other than the usual documents, core documents required for student VISA are;

  • Visa Application Form
  • Should have a Blocked Account (Expatrio) as a Proof of Financial Resources i.e. 11,208 Euros living expenses
  • Health Insurance
  • Visa Application fees of 75 Euros

One will have to wait for a minimum of 4 months until the decision is made from the Embassy or the Consulate

For residence permit, apart from the usual documents, the core documents required are;

  • Evidence of employment for the past two years and bank statements
  • Proof of paid pension insurance
  • Health Insurance Evidence
  • Proof of accommodation and address registration/ rental contract

For settlement permit, after the completion of their study, one needs to have lived for at least two years and worked in the relevant study field; possess adequate financial resources; must have held a residence permit for work; should be free from any criminal charges and must have paid the pension insurance throughout. Settlement fee for the permit is 113 Euros.

If one has spent a minimum of 8 years spent in Germany, one can actually acquire naturalization based on the conditions if one can actually prove their language skills; are employed and have a secured income; can understand the German political, social or the legal systems; be free from any criminal convictions and as well should have renounced their previous citizenship.


Naturalization cost as of 2023 is 255 Euros.
