A visitor visa is a type of visa that allows a foreign national to enter a country legally for a temporary stay, either to visit family members, for the purpose of tourism, or for short business trips. Visit visa usually differs from a tourist visa, in the areas that the tourist VISAs are mostly focused on leisure activities, while a visitor visa encompasses broader range of purposes. While tourist visas may sometimes be issued upon arrival; visitor visas, on the other hand, often require applications to be submitted to the foreign government’s embassy or consulate before travel. Generally, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to travel to the United States must first obtain a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stay. Visitor visas are classified as business (B-1 visa), for tourism (B-2 visa), or for a combination of both purposes (B-1/B-2 visa).
Business (B-1) VISAs are generally classified for individuals who want to visit the USA for either consultation with business associates; settle an estate; attend a scientific, educational, professional, or business convention or conference and maybe negotiate a contract.
Tourism (B-2) VISAs are generally for the purpose of tourism; visit with friends or relatives, for vacation (holidays); medical treatment; participation by amateurs in musical, sports, or similar events or contests if not being paid for participating; participation in social events hosted by fraternal, social, or service organizations; enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two-day cooking class while on vacation)
Visitor Visas, however doesn’t allow an individual to indulge in activities of study; employment; arrive as a crewmember on a ship or aircraft; involve in paid performances, or any professional performance before a paying audience; work as foreign press, in radio, film, print journalism, or other information media; or permanently reside in the United States.
Document/ Requirements that must be sufficed includes;
· an Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application Form- DS-160
· a Photo (2 inches by 2 inches) which the applicant will upload while completing the online DS-160 Form
· Non- refundable visa application fees of 185$
· Passport valid for travel to the United States
· Letter of intent indicating the purpose of one’s trip, ability to pay all of the associated costs of the trip and likewise a clear intend to depart the USA in the specified time properly stating property, community or family ties to one’s home country. If by any chance one will not be able to cover all the costs for one’s trip, one may show evidence that another person will be responsible for covering parts or all costs for the trip.
