Conditions for application should mainly satisfy that a relative either ought to be a Finnish citizen living in Finland; the main applicant fully dependent both mentally and physically on a family member living in Finland; and have led a close family life and intend to continue it in Finland.

The requirements include a Valid original passport, a photo complying with the guidelines as per the immigration authority, colored copies of all pages of the passport of the applicant including the guardian residing in Finland, plus document showing the proof that one legally resides in the country from which he/ she is applying. Supplement forms and MP_1 Forms might be required as per the situation. Other application-specific document attachments also require the applicant to include evidence/ document(s) clarifying the applicant’s family relations with the family member residing in Finland and that must be legalized including submission of proof of Doctor’s certificate/health statement. The electronic application fee is 530 € and for a child is 270 €. Paper application fee, on the other hand is 580 € and for a child is 300 €.

What to take into consideration after arrival to Finland

After arrival in Finland, the border authorities may ask applicants to prove if one can still meet all the requirements for the residence permit as well as inquire about whether one has adequate money to live in Finland. Digital and Population Data Services Agency can be contacted or visited in person in the service location to get a municipality of residence and a personal identity code. In case one decides to stay in Finland, an extended permit needs to be applied before the expiration of the first permit. The applicant reserves the right to work and may be granted an unrestricted right to work; however, he/ she cannot start working before getting a residence permit.
