A bit about applying at the Netherland based Delft University of Technology


One of the oldest and largest leading Dutch public technical university, Delft University of Technology based in Delft, Netherlands, has been ranked one of the prominent universities in Europe and one of the best schools to study architecture and engineering in the world. Prominent Dutch Nobel laureates who have at one time been associated with Delft are Jacobus Henricus van ‘t Hoff (theoretical chemist), Heike Kamerlingh Onnes (experimental physicist), and Simon van der Meer (accelerator physicist). A 100 Euros application fee is generally required as a part of the application. Document requirements for application generally include transcripts/ marksheets acquired as part of a student’s previous qualifications including copies of certified translations, a travel document as in Passport, a CV, proof of language proficiency, motivation letter, GRE and Portfolios (based on the program requirements) and a Dutch Residence permit.

Minimum English language requirements to get entry to an English taught Bachelor programs is TOEFL IBT with an overall score of 70 or an IELTS score of at least 5.5 is needed, while few other programs in Engineering, Computer Science or Earth Science requires an IELTS score of at least 6.5 or a TOEFL IBT score of 90. For Masters programs, TOEFL IBT with an overall score of 100 with each component of at least 22 or an IELTS score of at least 7.0 with each components 6.5 is needed to get into the program. Application can be applied via Studielink and continued onto Osiaan to upload the required documents, pay the application fee and monitor to check the progress of the same.

To apply for a PhD position, a candidate must have a Master’s Degree, possess an adequate level of language proficiency (A TOEFL of 100 with no section less than 22/ IELTS of 7.0 with no bands less than 6.5) and be familiar with the theory and methodology of the research field. One need to present the test results only during the selection procedure and not as a part of the application. Exemptions from English proficiency test can also be availed for native speakers or non-native applicants who have obtained an English-taught Master’s degree. However, if during the selection process it is deemed that the English proficiency of the candidate with an English-taught Master’s degree does not meet the requirements, they may also be asked to do a placement test which can only be taken at TU Delft and not online.
