A founding member of the Association of American Universities, University of California, Berkeley is an esteemed public land-grant research university based in Berkeley, California, United States. The university was one of the original eight “Public Ivy” schools and is listed amongst “R1: Doctoral Universities with Very high research activity”. The university is also known to house the federally funded prestigious research and development center, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, known for its groundbreaking discoveries in science to the world. The university takes a holistic approach to review the candidates for their eligibility to get into the relevant program. Application fee for undergraduate international applicants is $95. Entry into the course requires a candidate to suffice the proficiency of English language either by Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scoring a minimum of 80 or better (preferable 100)/ 6.5 in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Duolingo English Test (DET) with a minimum score of 115. GPA requirements to get into a relevant program requires students to possess at least 3.4. Students who have completed IGCSE or O-level exams require an additional completion of either a two-year A-level program with a minimum of three academic exams, the IB diploma program, or another similar academic curriculum.
For entry into a graduate program, the application fee requirement is $155. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required to meet the eligibility into a relevant program including a good amount of undergraduate training and / or professional experience to do graduate work in one’s chosen field. TOEFL (IBT) of 90 or IELTS of 7.0 minimum are the requirements for the English Proficiency Test. Transcripts of the gained qualifications should be electronically submitted through World Education Services (WES) International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP) evaluation WES ICAP. The application also requires the submission of Letters of Recommendation, Statement of Purpose, Personal History statement or any other essays as required by the program. Some programs may also require applicants to take standardized tests such as the GRE General Test, a GRE Subject Test, the GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test) or MCAT (Medical College Admission Test).
For Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) Appointments, before they can be appointed to teach, evidence of higher Oral English Proficiency Requirement is to be submitted.
Research scholarship opportunities are also available to international students wanting to opt for the same. Graduate students, on the other hand, can seek financial assistance from their relevant departments, including Graduate Student Researcher and Graduate Student Instructorships.
