With diversified industries and service jobs harder to fill due to labor shortages; there comes the opportunity for foreign nationals to work as a skilled worker not only in the areas of tech but as well in the areas of hospitality, manufacturing, and customer services.
While a General Student VISA category applies to students intending to study in Japan, with core document outlining the mandatory submission of Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) issued by the regional immigration authority functioning under the jurisdiction of the Immigration Services Agency of Japan; competent foreign professionals, on the other hand, intending to work in Japan has to apply for a Highly Skilled Professional VISA whose validity is generally for 5 years. Dependents of the professionals are however allowed to apply for a General VISA which will allow them to accompany their partner for either 3 years, two years or a year (*conditions applied).
While Japanese Embassy or Consulate can brief the detailed documents required for application of the VISA; however, the basics every individual applying are required to suffice includes- a travel document or a passport; VISA application forms; photographs; original or a copy of Certificate of Eligibility (CoE). The CoE is a very crucial document and should be obtained from a regional immigration bureau in Japan specifying notation of total points and type of activities as a highly skilled professional without which the application will not be accepted.
