A public university probably known to every international student because of its ranking as well as affordability, Youngstown State University is the easternmost member of the University System of Ohio and a major driver of the region’s economy in playing a pivotal role in the financial, educational, and social well-being of Northeast Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and beyond. William Leslie Johnson aka Bill Johnson, a member of the Republican party, businessman and a former politician, has since 2024, been serving as the tenth president of Youngstown State University.

Entry requirements for Youngstown is flexible. International students wanting to apply to an undergraduate course are generally required to pay an application fee of 75$; submit an IELTS score of 6.0 or PTE of 50 or Duolingo of 95 or TOEFL of 67. For Master students; an application fee of 75$; IELTS of 6.5 or Duolingo of 105 or TOEFL of 79-80 is generally required for admission into the relevant programs. Admission in an undergraduate program starts with a minimum GPA of 2.0. To apply for a Masters program, any student acquiring a GPA below 2.7 in their previous undergraduate degree will have the opportunity to increase their chance of application acceptance by submitting GRE scores, the Miller Analogies Test, or graduate level subject-specific exam as specified by the department of the program.

Tuition fees generally comes below 12,000 USD and exceptional students will be able to make the already reasonable tuition fees affordable by securing scholarships. Undergraduate GPA based scholarships are very competitive and range up to 5,000 USD per year. Likewise graduate scholarships generally starts from 500 USD per year and the range varies as per department and programs. There is also the Graduate Doris Burdman Scholarship worth 2,500 USD that is reserved for a student enrolled in the Master of Social Work and has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 GPA.
