The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is the body functioning under the British Government that is responsible for administering and issuing the scheme of Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS). The main objective for the introduction of ATAS has been for the purpose of preventing dissemination of skills and knowledge by making sure applicants do not have any sort a access or means of delivery to ACMT (Advanced Conventional Military Technology) and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), which of course could be the potential source to use, build as well deliver Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). All in all, filter the applicants whose intentions are ill willed towards the national security of the UK. Areas of study includes Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology and Metallurgy which will be checked by Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/edutecoach/
An ATAS certificate is required by anyone (exceptions applied as per the immigration website) undertaking an undergraduate course with an integrated Master year, taught, research- based Masters, a PhD level study or an employment. A Common Aggregator Hierarchy (CAH3) code will be applied to the subject area one will be undertaking and the Research Institution or the HEI will include that on the official offer letter or may as well confirm it separately. An ATAS certificate is generally valid for 6 months from the date of issuance of ATAS certificate.
