• A Residence Permit allows an individual to reside and study in Denmark for the duration of time the permit is valid.
• A permit will allow an individual to stay in the Schengen Countries for up to 90 days within a 180 days period. However, working in other Schengen countries will not be allowed.
• A student having residence permit must not give up his/her Danish address or stay abroad for more than 6 successive months. A violation of this rule will result in the lapse of the permit ultimately leading to loss of right to stay in Denmark. If one needs to stay abroad for a longer period of time, one can apply for a dispensation to prevent permit from lapsing.
• Are allowed to work 90 hours per month during the normal period of study from September to May, and full-time through June, July and August. The work permit is also valid during the job seeking period of either 6 months or 3 years, which is normally granted to you if you expect to complete a full educational program in Denmark. Working more hours than prescribed will be considered as illegal and he/she can receive a warning, a fine at worst a residence permit as a student can be revoked.
• If the work is for the benefit of humans and society, then one is permitted to do unlimited hours of unpaid voluntary work for an organization or association. Hours spent on doing unpaid voluntary work, does not count as part of your limited work permit.
• You can also bring your family members only if you are able to support yourself and your family members during your stay in Denmark.
• You are not allowed to apply for public benefits under the terms of the Active Social Policy Act, state study grants and housing benefits. If it is found to be done, then SIRI will be notified and your permit can be revoked ultimately losing the right to stay in Denmark.
• An individual is entitled to free Danish lessons as well have his/her Danish address registered in the Danish National Register. The municipality of residence is obliged to offer Danish lessons as well refer a language center. If residence permit in Denmark has been granted based on work, study, etc., one will have to pay a deposit before one can start receiving lessons.
